Steve Jobs in His Own Words

Friday August 26th 2011
Steve Jobs has a vision of beauty.

Steve Jobs’ has a visionary Pisces Sun in the workaholic 6th house.

His chart is dominated by a dynamic Grand Cross that links Venus (beauty) with innovation (Uranus-Jupiter), vision (Neptune) and action (Mars).  All are in the go-getting Cardinal signs.

He’s also brilliant at articulating and selling his vision. The planet of communication Mercury rules both his ascendant and his MC (public face). It’s in Aquarius, of course, that high-minded sign which so clearly rules both the high-tech industries and our visions of the future. But better than that, it’s in the playful, creative fifth house.

Here are some good things the founder of Apple has said and some aspects in his natal chart that correspond.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
That dynamic, dominating Cardinal Cross, Pluto in the 12th trine Mars in the 8th.
I’m just picking out a few points in his chart for each quote, but see what else you can find.

“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”
Saturn in Scorpio (practical pefection and perseverance) exactly sextile Venus in Capricorn (impeccable taste)

“My job is to not be easy on people. My job is to make them better.”
Virgo Rising, Saturn in Scorpio in the third. Scorpio and Virgo are both perfectionist.

“We made the buttons on the screen look so good you’ll want to lick them.”
Venus in Capricorn opposite Jupiter-Uranus in Cancer

“Why join the navy if you can be a pirate?”
Aries Moon, Chiron in Aquarius, Uranus-Jupiter conjunct, Pluto in Leo trine Mars in Aries

“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”
Uranus-Jupiter (big innovation) in the 10th (leadership)

“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully.” Virgo Rising, Venus in Capricorn, Saturn in Scorpio in the third (knowing how to say no)

“So when a good idea comes, you know, part of my job is to move it around, just see what different people think, get people talking about it, argue with people about it, get ideas moving among that group of 100 people, get different people together to explore different aspects of it quietly, and, you know – just explore things.”
Mercury in Aquarius in the 5th (talking to creative people), Sun in Pisces in the 6th (inspiration at work)

“In most people’s vocabularies, design means veneer. It’s interior decorating. It’s the fabric of the curtains of the sofa. But to me, nothing could be further from the meaning of design. Design is the fundamental soul of a human-made creation that ends up expressing itself in successive outer layers of the product or service.”
Venus in Capricorn, Saturn in Scorpio (again)

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Here’s to you Steve.

I can’t leave this without adding a few more thoughts.

  • To me, that Venus in Capricorn is pivotal in his chart. Steve Jobs mission has been to make the world more beautiful in the deepest sense of that word. Venus rules harmony, beauty, elegance.  Capricorn is practical, timeless, long-lasting. This combination of planet and sign often produces perfect taste.
  • The shape of his chart is incredibly dynamic and elegant, almost as if it were designed by Apple.
  • I checked his fifth harmonic, which shows his legacy. It’s incredibly clear and the key planet is Neptune – vision. That is his legacy to us.
  • I also looked at his seventh harmonic (what inspires him), Venus dominates along with the Moon.

I have one degree of separation: friend of mine used to fix Jobs’s computer and install his updates, when he was working on another OS named X (a name he later rolled into the Mac nomenclature.)

A fine example of Jobs saying No to ugly & trivial details to focus on his larger work 🙂

I’ve always used a Mac (since the late 80s believe it or not), because they’re prettier and that makes them easier to use.

“Design is the fundamental soul of a human-made creation that ends up expressing itself in successive outer layers of the product or service.”

The more I think about this, the more profound it seems. Very Saturn in Scorpio.

I still remember the first time I ‘played’ with a Mac,my sister and I where about 9 and 12 and started making drawings and ‘hand writing’ with the mouse, we loved it.

Jobs (and his chart) have always being a source of inspiration.

What he says about not blindly follow someone else’s steps resonates strongly. I’ve always said, Why being a second hand version of someone else, if you can be the very best version of yourself? Now, I if had at least one planet in earth!

@Sabrina – I know how you feel about the earth. I just wish I had some cardinals too!!
