Ripe apples drop about my head;

The luscious clusters of the vine

Upon my mouth do crush their wine;

The nectarine and curious peach

Into my hands themselves do reach;

Stumbling on melons as I pass,

Insnared with flowers, I fall on grass.

The Garden, Andrew Marvell  (1621-1678)

Our street used to be an orchard before the houses were built here in the 1930s and the developers left the old trees in place. Right now the gardens are dripping with pears, plums and apples. My courgettes and tomatoes are luscious.

And the Sun is in the last sign of summer, Virgo. This runs from about the August  23 of to the September 22, the time of the harvest.This is the time of perfection, an attribute associated with those who have strongly Virgoan charts. The fruits which flowered during the month of fixed earth Taurus are have turned into fruit and grain They are no longer potential food, but real food. The apples and plums, the wheat and the corn are here now, made manifest.

So like all the earth signs – Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn – it’s Virgo’s job to ‘make it real’. Right now, the goddess of the corn is making the fruits of the earth real.
