Astrology of Now: Deep Prayer, Inner Vastness
Blue, Green and Brown by Mark Rothko |
I do wonder how much astrology is used in the Vatican. The timing of Benedcit XVI’s resignation and then the papal conclave that starts today, on the day of the Pisces New Moon, is perfect.
This Pisces energy is well-used in prayer, contemplation and meditation. Pisces is about the dissolving of boundaries. It is about connecting to the vastness of the universe and becoming one with it. It is about hearing the voice of god inside you, and all around you.
Pisces is traditionally one of the “mute” signs, which means listening. If you have the opportunity today to stop what you are doing and listen to the Om of the universe inside yourself and around you, do so. This is a big opportunity to find that stillness.
This morning, Mars has just slipped into Aries, the sign of beginning. Mars only visits his own sign once every two years, so this is special zippy energy. However, this is more like a slippage, or an escape of pressure, because so much energy stays in Pisces, and also because Mercury is still retrograde. What this means is contemplate beginnings, meditate on the unfurling path ahead of you, but wait to take real action.
With Jupiter in Gemini, you need to sift through a lot of information.
Think of that papal conclave. The red-silk cardinals sitting beneath the glorious, giddy world of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo was a believer, with Moon, Mars and Sun in Pisces. His vision of humanity and our relationship to the divine explodes across the lapis blue skies of the chapel.
Some cardinals will doubtless be machinating and politicking. With Saturn in Scorpio, how could it be otherwise? But some must be listening very hard.
Mercury goes forward on the 17th. The Sun moves into Aries on the 20th. Venus joins him on the 22nd. Will there be a surprise choice of Pope, since all the planets in Aries are going to conjunct Uranus?
The asteroid Ceres, which seems to have a lot to do with Popes, moves into Cancer, mother church, on April 4th and into a trine with Neptune in Pisces, vast spirituality and Saturn in Scorpio, secret earthly power.

Absolutely lovely post. Yes, the timing of the start of the conclave is perfect.
I do wonder though what it will signify if – as some are reporting that the conclave is expected to last between one and four days – a new Pope is chosen while Mercury is still retrograde. You know what they say about not making major decisions during the retrograde phase!
I think whether the Vatican uses astrology or not will be indicated by whether a pope is announced during the Mercury retrograde! This is a very, very interesting one to watch. The whole concept around the fisherman and casting of nets and so forth keeps running through my mind.
The other thing I keep wondering about is the end of the Age of Pisces. It’s interesting timing when we are on the brink of the Age of Aquarius. (Although, of course, we have not a clue when exactly that is.)
Yes. Just checked to see if John Paul I was elected under a Merc Rx. He was.. and we know how that one turned out. He reigned for 33 days and then died. So if they have any sense they’ll take their time.
Thank you for covering the Papal conclave – a beautifully written post. Perfect timing for the Vatican with Saturn in Scorpio exactly sextile Pluto in Capricorn ( & in mutual reception) all this week. How appropriate – some cosmic back-up?! I wonder if the conclave’s decision will wait until Mercury goes direct. Will Mars having gone into Aries want to push ahead?
I think Mars will be urging them to steam ahead, but they would be much wiser to go slow, and even take a rain check. I hope this means they have a chance to really get to know each other. I do think the Pluto-Saturn combo steadies all that Pisces energy somewhat.
I’m having a vision of all those cardinals in the Chapel, with their laptops and tablets in front of them, looking at different horoscopes, wondering which one to choose.
Wouldn’t that be a miracle ??

I love the image of wired cardinals checking charts 🙂
astoundingly, they took the Mars route. If, as I secretly suspect, they viewed Benedict is a mistake, then perhaps the astrologers among them view this as re-taking a prior decision, rather than making a wholly new one. Benedict is still alive, which indicates that he himself reconsidered his role….
I am not to sure about the timing. I dont think it bodes well. Contact now between saturn/jupiter/chiron. BTW if you look at the declination charts of the departed pope and the ransit chart, you will also notice contact between saturn/chiron. In other words end of(saturn) career (chiron).
The BBC reported earlier that it is thought that the papal inauguration will be next Tuesday 19th. If true, that at least will take place once Mercury is direct again.
Well, Ceres was at the top of the chart as the white smoke billowed out tonight.
Wonderful blog — thank you! Looking forward to regular check-ins. St. Francis — Patron St of the Animals — ’bout time!!!!
