The White Masks Of Ebola
Someone asked last week when the white-masked people were coming to fight the black-masked Islamic State killers. Maybe the answer is, they are already here; but they’re busy.
Healthworkers tackling the Ebola outbreak are sheathed in plastic. The white hoods and masks they wear do make them look like aliens. No wonder West Africans were at first suspicious.
The battle against the virus is clearcut in one way: it’s humans vs. disease. But in another it’s a battle without boundaries. There is no cure as yet and Ebola crosses borders and travels along flightpaths invisibly.
What might you look for astrologically?
This is a story that has unfolded over many years and will probably carry on for many years, so the cycles involved are likely to be slow.
Neptune is the planet that spreads contagion, Pluto infects. Neptune, which dissolves boundaries, is very powerful in its own sign Pisces this decade. The disease is spread through fluids, which are also Piscean and Neptunian in nature.
To read an older post linking Neptune in Pisces and plague, click here.
Chiron, the asteroid which represents medical professionals in modern astrology, is also currently making a slow, almost decade-long, transit through Pisces.
Saturn, the grim reaper is currently in Scorpio, a sign associated with disease. Saturn leaves Scorpio in December to return only briefly next year.
The eclipses are also important because they tell us the show the energy of the six months to come.
Here is a chart for the first Ebola outbreak in 1976. This is from Paul Saunders at Solaris Astrology, who has written an extensive piece about the virus with many more charts and more information.
Note the conjunction of Chiron — illness and cure — and Lilith, the wild. Ebola is thought to be carried by wild animals, especially bats, considered extremely tasty in parts of Africa.
A rough timeline of the current Ebola outbreak
Dec 2013 – Possible first deaths in the village of Meliandoua, Guinea — a toddler bitten by a fruit bat and his mother.
Note the conjunction of Lilith and Jupiter in this chart.
February — More cases reported in Guinea
March 22, 2014: Ebola outbreak confirmed in Guinea
Mercury, the message, conjunct Neptune 4°-6° Pisces. The news is out of an infection but it’s vague.
Notice that Vesta, the domestic goddess, is exactly conjunct the North Node, the eclipse point.
March 30: Liberia reports two Ebola cases; suspected cases reported in Sierra Leone.
April 1: Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) warns the epidemic’s spread is “unprecedented.” But a World Health Organization (WHO) spokesman is still maintaining that it’s small.
April 14: Pluto turns retrograde 13° Capricorn
April 15: Lunar eclipse 15° Libra. This eclipse was opposite Uranus.
April 21: Uranus squares Pluto 13°. Uranus in Aries accelerates infection.
April 29: Solar eclipse 8° Taurus.
May 26: WHO confirms first Ebola deaths in Sierra Leone.
June 6: Neptune goes retrograde
June 17: Ebola reaches Monrovia, the capital of Liberia.
June 23: MSF says Ebola is “out of control”. Recorded deaths reach 350.
July 25: Nigeria confirms its first Ebola case.
July 29: Dr. Sheik Umar Khan, who was leading Sierra Leone’s fight against the epidemic, dies of Ebola.
Chiron (the doctor) qq Lilith., trine Saturn
Aug. 8: WHO declares Ebola “international public health emergency.”
At last, we’re talking about it.
Lilith, Mercury, Sun conjunct in Leo, square Saturn.
Aug. 12: WHO approves use of unproven drugs or vaccines. A Spanish priest with Ebola dies in a Madrid hospital.
Aug. 28: WHO puts death toll at above 1,550, warns outbreak could infect more than 20,000.
Aug. 29: Senegal reports first confirmed Ebola case.
Sept 2: MSF President Joanne Liu tells U.N. members the world is “losing the battle” to contain Ebola.
Sept. 18: The United Nations says a special mission to combat Ebola will deploy staff in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. U.N. Security Council adopts U.S.-drafted resolution calling for lifting of travel and border restrictions.
Sept. 19 – Sierra Leone imposes a three-day curfew.
Sept. 22 – WHO says the outbreak has been largely contained in Senegal and Nigeria.
Sept. 23 – The CDC estimates between 550,000 and 1.4 million people in West Africa may be infected with Ebola by January.
Oct. 3 – WHO tally: 3,439 dead out of 7,492 suspected, probable and confirmed cases in West Africa and in the United States, which has one of the cases.
Oct. 6 – The first infection outside Africa — a nurse’s aide in Madrid.
Oct. 8 Lunar Eclipse at 15° Aries conjunct Uranus. Both Lilith and Jupiter trine the eclipse.
Oct. 13 Teresa Romero is improving.
Oct. 23 Solar Eclipse at 0° Scorpio trine Neptune.
November 16 — Neptune goes forward
As you can see, we could carry on drawing up charts ad infinitum, but what is noticeable is the presence of Lilith. After I wrote this I found that my colleague Michael Wolfstar had reached the same conclusion about Lilith from a different angle. Read his excellent, pithy piece here. He has a different chart for the first virus too.
The point is, what is Lilith doing now? She is at 24° Leo and exactly square the asteroid of homeland, Ceres in Scorpio, which is also conjunct Saturn. Lilith is putting the wind up people, encroaching right into their comfort zone. Ceres, after all, is all about humans taming nature, while Lilith is quite the opposite.
Lilith has been in Leo since March 4. She will leave on November 27.
She’s also neatly sextiling Mercury Rx in Libra right now, certainly some of the panic smacks of Lilith’s wildness.
When Mercury returns to the eclipse point we may see a shift in the progress of the disease. As the messenger, Mercury is involved with infection. It’s possible we might see a reverse in the spread of Ebola.
What do you think?
It just struck me that Doctors Without Borders itself seems very Piscean/Neptunian … do you have a chart for the organization?
Continuing the theme, “12th house people” – priests, medical missionaries and others offering succor – are a big part of the story, symbolically and literally hidden behind the veil of haz-mat suits (their white masks eerily resembling halos) …
Yes, this very much sounds like a Neptune/Chiron in Pisces situation.
(And as much as I love Lilith, I wish she’d quit with the poor people of West Africa and take out her vengeance on the black-masked dudes who have such hatred of women.)
Oh my – you’re right. MSF is exactly saying Pisces. I’m going to find a chart.
Mars in Pisces — Warriors for compassion in the same way that Mars in Libra can be a warrior for peace. Jupiter and Neptune in Sagittarius…
The chart isn’t coming through I see. I have 20 December 1971 in Paris, but no birth time.
I ran a chart on astrodienst using Geneva for the birthplace (as that is where MSB is headquartered) and randomly picking 12 noon for the birth time …
This gave me Pisces rising (with Mars in Pisces in the 1st, perfectly expressing the group’s public image!) and …
20 Sagittarius MC, conjuncted from the 9th by Jupiter at 19 Sag …
Eerie, right?
I looked for the birth date on the Italian MSF website and found – Medici senza Frontiere nasce ufficialmente il 22 dicembre del 1971 – MSF was officially born on 22 Dec. 1971 http://www.medicisenzafrontiere.it/chi-siamo/storia/fondazione
for a noon chart this moves the Moon out of Capricorn to Aquarius
The MSF was founded in Paris, France in 1971 – from http://www.msf.org/about-msf
OK. I’ll run that one.
Moon in Aquarius is much more likely. Still Mars in Pisces in the 1st for the noon chart.
Thank you SO much for such a detailed, in-depth analysis! Truly fascinating; I can see myself reading and re-reading this article for quite some time, there’s a lot to take in.
I’ve been expecting something like this to happen for years. As the pressure of an un-sustainable human population pushes further into what were deep forest areas, the chances of humans coming into contact with new diseases – formerly contained within small animal groups, as it seems may have happened with Ebola and possibly AIDS too – gets more and more likely. I never imagined Ebola would be the one; it’s actually quite hard to catch, contracted only by direct contact with an infected person. Of course, the more people catch it, the more likely it is to mutate. It’s a very frightening situation that the PTB have refused to look in the eye for way too long.
Anyway. I now shall put away my black cape of doom and get on with some proper work, even though it’s my day off. 6th house stellium can’t help herself. 🙂
Hi Christina,
If you’re comparing the Ebola-outbreak to IS, you’re saying IS is like a virus.
Therefore they should be treated like a virus.
However in the Ebola-outbreak I think Neptune/Chiron/Lilith/Ceres is important and in the “outbreak of IS” that would be Pluto/Uranus/Saturn/Mars.
For Ebola scientists are near to a treatment.
Any ideas about a treatment for IS ???
mimi
So we have to come up with a vaccine, injecting a very small amount of fundamentalism into the collective body??
By the way, your fundamentalism-vaccine joke made my day. And yes, pluto is an healer who unfortunately skip the Hippocratic oath, so everything is possible.
Technically, it would be weakened/disempowered fundamentalism — identifiable enough to set off a reaction in the corpus, but not actually strong or organized or fertile (important point) enough to cause a real infection.
Interesting metaphor …
I don”t know; I’m asking : what would help us in getting through to the minds of these Jihadi’s to make them understand that there is another truth apart from their own truth ? I just don’t know.
And in every conversation there is a point where words have no meaning anymore and only action is required. I’m afraid that at this moment this is the case.
mimi
Mimi, I don’t think there is an instant solution. However, everyone has their Achilles’ heel. Jihadists seem to believe they will not go to paradise, if killed by a woman (google for Mariam al Mansouri ). So there is a bitter irony there… Jihadists making female soldiers much more in demand then male (for the first time in history, I think). If you can’t beat their fanaticism, just use it against them.
Neptune in pisces seems to have this effect, of feeling collectively helpless (against IS and ebola). As though it is nothing but a bad dream.
To put it straight: Mercury will return to the eclipse point, but what is going to happen, depend on what we are doing (or not doing). Pluto is about letting go and transforming. Pluto in capricorn is about transforming social borders. Even more as since it is in mutual reception with saturn in scorpio. Terminal illnesses can force a society to transform: while such epidemics are grounded in the social misery, no one can really feel safe, no matter how wealthy. We should never forget: many, many more people are dying of starvation and malaria. We only focus on ebola, because it could become problem for us. But pluto works on a larger scale and doesn’t really care about our personal unease.
So, pluto in capricorn demands changing social norms… Women as most effective soldiers in the Middle East, hopefully better birth control and less poaching in Africa, more social awareness in western hemisphere… But, as I already said, we just feel helpless. Let’s hope saturn entering sagittarius next year will wake the world up, calling for global responsibility and challenging the neptune.
Looking at the 12/2003 chart, two things leaped out at me — all that weight below the horizon, keeping it local and inward; also, tight conjunction between Lilith and Jupiter — in the 10th house! I realize the time is not fixed, but the weighting and the 10th house feel pretty apt.
The March 2014 chart is weighted to the right, which, in humans, I associate with being motivated externally — in this case, makes me think of ebola needing others to spread it around. Lilith and Jupiter are separated but both in the 12th house. The image of veils and shrouds and plastic sheeting mentioned above is so perfect it’s creepy.
I just decided to check some centaurs asteroids (because healers). I decided for nessus and pholus. Nessus because of the long incubation of ebola. Pholus because of the great effect ebola has on us. I took your chart for 8th august (me too consider it to be the most important chart). The WHO declared Ebola international public health emergency on that day, and they did it (I hope I got it right), in the moment they made their opinion public, puting it on their homepage at 4:35 pm (Genf). So we have sagittarius rising, with pholus (in sagittarius) and pluto in the 1st house. Lilith, sun, mercury, jupiter, venus (and vertex) – all of them in the 8th house of death and rebirth. Nessus is on the very last degree of Aquarius (29°52′).
Thanks for that timing on the chart.
The idea of a virus living wild — that is three weeks outside the body — is really scary & again rather Lilithish.
The centaurs are interesting as healers, aren’t they, but sometimes you have to ask yourself if we human beings are a bit like a virus on mother earth…
Yes… I was interested in centaurs because I have them tightly conjuncting nearly anything important in my natal chart (sun, moon, n. node, MC, IC, chart ruler…). And that’s said- they are healers, but it does not necessarily mean they will heal you. Contrary to the common opinion, centaurus don’t indicate pain. They just demand to see the pain (which is omnipresent anyway) as part of a bigger picture and more objective. So you are quite right, and as we already discussed it, the ebola problem runs much deeper. There is no point about alleviating the symptoms but not the cause.
A little correction: Incubation is not that incredible long (compared to AIDS). But the virus can survive outside of the body for about 3 weeks… And that makes ebola so dangerous. This is, however, a typical Nessus motive.
Have you been watching Prof. Brian Cox yesterday evening ??
mimi
No — should I? Find him terribly irritating…
His programma Human Universe is quite interesting !!
He was talking about why the human race is present in this Universe.
I thought he resembled very much David Attenborough and by explaining how the first tiny living thing came into being on planet Earth, namely because of a bacteria entering a cell-like being and this all originated from the Big Bang, and he was going to admit that man is made of stardust and therefore there could be some meaning to astrology.
Of course he came to a different conclusion, he is after all a scientist.
I thought it was really funny.
mimi
He has got the same youthful enthusiasm I suppose! I ought to look at their charts. David Attenborough is a hero in this house and Brian Cox a demon…
[…] to my sister I saw an interesting astrological post on ebola at The Oxford Astrologer blog. Of course this is very current, as though we have known of it for ages, the disease has just […]
Ebola is endemic to Africa now. They keep having outbreaks with increasing frequency. However, this is the 1st time that it’s hit a city (as opposed to bush). And the present outbreak in Congo is a different strain than the Zaire strain in Western Africa now. Moreover, Ebola is very similar to HIV in the way it destroys the immune system… however, Ebola is a lot more virulent, contagious and deadly. There’s no cure coming up anytime soon. The promise of a cure is just a Mercury Rx campaign BS. Obama appointing a lobbyist as Ebola Czar is proof positive that he looks at this as a political problem not a global health emergency. Remember ZMapp was used in just 2 survivors — and the 3rd priest who took it in Spain died. That’s hardly proof of it’s efficacy. And the difficult production (6 months to make a few doses) means it’s not the answer no matter what. It took the CDC 7 years to figure out that AIDS was blood borne and throughout the 80’s people continued to die from blood transfusions. So since we cannot come up with a cure for AIDS/HIV — only a treatment for it. I think that’s where the focus should be concentrated as this disease isn’t going anywhere… it’s just going to get worse in Africa unless they refrain from eating bushmeat (their source of protein) and practice safe sex… and given that HIV is still epidemic there — this isn’t going to happen. Remember that HIV rates only went down in the US because of huge societal behavioral changes (safe sex and clean needles). There was no treatment or cure for AIDS/HIV until the mid 90s. Africa has to accept responsibility for ending this disease — we cannot do it for them. And so far their willingness to even accept its existence seems sparse at best. I think the only solution is 21 day mass quarantines in Western Africa and then distributing a food substitute such as http://www.soylent.com – an ‘open source’ very cheap food alternative (powdered/drinkable). Then they all have to give up bushmeat permanently — otherwise it will come right back.
Hi, I appreciate your article about the astrology of ebola and I’ll be reading all your other posts about disease, healing and outer planets with great interest. As a student homeopath and astrologer, I’m working to integrate my learning of both subjects so that I can better understand both:)
There’s an elephant in the room when it comes to how the media portrays disease and how to treat it; homeopathy has been used with success, with great results in epidemics for over 200 years, but you’d never know there’s an option besides fear by only looking in the mainstream. The homeopathic perspective is that disease is not something that is separate from life, to be battled and removed, but instead a symptom of the human body struggling to adapt to conditions that it’s experiencing, so my point of view about disease is that it’s an opportunity for us to evolve beyond our limitations and disease is our opportunity to grow into the energy offered by the outer planets. When we have something like ebola come up, there’s no longer any choice in the matter; it must be a collective movement to grow beyond (saturn, our perceived reality).
An additional date to add to this timeline is the arrival of an international team of homeopaths in the last week. In a letter dated October 19, 2014 they indicate that they arrived in Monrovia, Liberia on Friday (October 17, 2014) at ‘1/2 past 7’. It must be 7:30 since they describe that their guides need to rush home because of the 11 pm curfew.
The letter is long, but if you’re interested I’ll forward it to you. I know I’m looking forward to hearing positive results from their work, but I’m aware that not everyone is as enamored with homeopathy as I am, so let me know if you’d like to have more info:)
Regards,
Suzana
