Equinox: Perfect Balance

Wednesday March 20th 2019

The Star, or Dancer on a Stage, Degas

We’ve reached the equinox – that moment of perfect balance in the year, when the day is as long as the night, or the dark is as long as the light.

It’s the beginning of the astrological year, when the Sun steps into Aries, perhaps with a little shake of excitement to get rid of the dampness of Pisces. Whether you’re North or South, there’s a little brisk friskiness at the equinox, a sense of possibilities and potential. The possibility of starting something afresh.

This year is special, of course, because there’s a lush full Moon in Libra, the sign of relationships. Sun and Moon are in balance across the sky. So we step into this new year, perhaps, hand-in-hand with a companion, or a possible companion. It’s interesting that there’s not been a Full Moon on this day for 19 years. Did anything start or finish for you then?

Today, also, Chiron in Aries now for most of the coming decade, gets his first conjunction with the Sun, and that Full Moon across the Zodiac. What can you heal? Where do you hurt? Who have you hurt?

If you were born in 1968 or 1969, you may be having your Chiron Return.

And there’s something else about this fresh new start. Mercury’s retrograde in Pisces may have helped some of us find forgiveness, for ourselves or for others.

Oh — and happy international astrology day.

I stopped working a few weeks after that full moon 19 years ago due to poor health. That was a loss of identity in terms of what I do. This time, the topic is identity again but who I am. The loss in this case has already happened, so it’s a start of a new me, which has yet to take shape so I don’t know yet! 🙂 still piecing it together.
The chiron, sun, moon conjunction is in my 6th house of healing and service. I’m meditating more right now, not to mention sleeping a lot! Feel like I need it, the energy is so intense.
I am finding forgiveness more easily, I thought it was because I was meditating. That’s interesting. 🙂

Thank you Christina. For me, the parallels are startling. Nineteen years ago I had just returned from a decade working abroad, and was unemployed and caring for my ageing parents. I turned to writing fiction and comedy. I was shortlisted in a BBC comedy-writing competition and wrote a novel that was taken up by an agent and looked like it was going to be published for a time. Nothing ultimately came of either – my own shortcomings to blame. For the last 19 years I’ve been treading water, going nowhere.
Currently, I have 2 novels entered in competitions and one’s a comedy again. One of the novels is also out, in search of an agent. It’s the first time in a long time I’ve felt able to put my work out there. I lost all confidence in myself, but after kind words and helpful advice from a professional, I found it again. It really does feel like a second chance, and everything coming round again, the same themes in my life, but very different this time.

Isn’t nineteen years is also a nodal cycle?

On March 21st, Persian New year, I spoke to my daughters’ Iranian family on Skype for the first time in 19 years following a dangerous divorce from my ex who had tried to keep us from leaving Iran after a visit. This has brought much needed closure for all affected by this ordeal. My new book, Homesick is now in for editing. There is no way any of this is coincidence.
