Astrology of Now: This Transit of Mercury
This afternoon, at around 4pm GMT, the little planet of speed, insight, commerce and travel, dances across the face of the Sun. With the right equipment, you’ll be able to see it. And I think it’s astrologically significant too. Mercury’s transit to the Sun happens 14 times this century — and only in Taurus or Scorpio.
This is the axis of the material vs the hidden, the object and its shadow, procreation and death, sex and power, ownership and enslavement.
Last time, Mercury retrograded in Scorpio was 2012 and 2013 — but last time he performed this particular dance in front of the Sun in Scorpio was 2006.
There was a flurry of Mercury transits to the Sun at the start of the century — 1999, 2003, 2006, 2016 — and now. But there won’t be another until 2032.
So this retrograde connects back to 2012, 2013 and maybe especially 2006. It connects forward to 2032. It also connect to the upcoming Pluto-Saturn conjunction in January, since Mercury’s next conjunction to the Sun will be just a few days before.
It seems this has been an exceptionally deep retrograde for many people. I’ve talked to many who have been on a journey of rapid self-development over the past few weeks — on retreats and workshops, or under the covers. I’ve been doing some intense chakra work, and my partner is currently on a solitary hike in the mountains. This is about gaining insight into yourself — the great gift of Mercury in Scorpio anyway — but it seems like there’s an opportunity (perhaps) for even more clarity with this transit to the Sun.
Pay attention to your hidden self today, and what people are really saying.
