Mars, the planet of pepper and passion, is in the sign of Gemini for a very long time (20 August 2022 – 23 March 2023). The warrior is unbuckling her sword, laying down her shield and lying down by the campfire to trade stories for a long stretch too. In short the red planet is retrograde from 30 October to 12 January, 2023.

Those born with this placement tend to have a pithy way with words, straight to the point, since Gemini is,. of course, the wordsmith, and they may have something to tell the rest of us about how to handle this transit.

During the retrograde, I’d advise you to be careful about what you say and write. Remember that during this period the pen really is mightier than the sword.

To inspire you, or at least help you focus your ideas (another theme of Mars in Gemini), here is what some people with this placement have had to say that seems particularly apposite.

I think therefore I am.

Go not to the temple to put flowers upon the feet of God, first fill your own house with the fragrance of love

You must get an education. You must go to school, and you must learn to protect yourself. And you must learn to protect yourself with the pen, and not the gun.

Man was born free, and he is everywhere in chains. Those who think themselves the masters of others are indeed greater slaves than they.

And therefore I am come amongst you at this time, not as for my recreation or sport, but being resolved, in the midst and heat of the battle, to live or die amongst you all; to lay down, for my God, and for my kingdom, and for my people, my honour and my blood, even the dust. I know I have but the body of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart of a king, and of a king of England, too.

Elizabeth I —  Virgo Sun, Mars in Gemini

I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I’ve changed
Well something’s lost, but something’s gained
In living every day

Joni Mitchell — Scorpio Sun, Mars in Gemini

When I was young I ate a dictionary,
And that did not do me a bit of good.
For I’ve absorbed so many words and phrases—
They drive me dizzy when I want to speak.
I start explaining but each person gazes
As if I spoke in Latin or in Greek.

Ira Gershwin — Sagittarius Sun, Mars in Gemini

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Martin Luther King, Jr. — Capricorn Sun, Mars in Gemini

I thought how unpleasant it is to be locked out; and I thought how it is worse, perhaps, to be locked in.

What matters in life is not what happens to you but what you remember and how you remember it.

Greetings, Christina! OK, since this is the 2nd time I’ve seen you ascribe lyrics to Aretha that belong to Mavis Staples, I have to raise my hand! Being a professional singer perhaps explains why this sticks in my (Cancer rising) craw. Released in 1971 on Stax records, this was a huge hit for the Staples Singers, who wrote it. Meanwhile, Aretha’s “Respect” was written by Otis Redding in 1965 and recorded by Aretha in 1967 on Atlantic Records.
BTW, I SO enjoy your website and frequent posts, along with carefully paired artwork–brava! Thank you!
