You still have until May 20 to use the energy of Mars, the planet of passion, retrograde in Libra, the sign of negotiation.Β This retrograde began on March 1, so we’ve had a few weeks to begin to see and feel how it works.

Personally, I have noticed a surge in my vitality. I’m not the most energetic of people — a very watery chart — and yet I’ve been bounding out of bed in the morning. I’ve paid attention to this after reading a good piece by astrobarry about Mars Rx. To compare, the last time Mars went retrograde was in Virgo between January and April 2012. I wonder if this extra energy applies to everyone though, or if the retrograde could be draining for some.

When Mars appears to be going backwards in the sky, the Earth is actually overtaking Mars. Both planets are on racetracks around our great star, but for every two Earth orbits, there is one Mars orbit, so at some point in those two years, there is this apparent retrograde for 72 days.

The other thing I’ve noticed is an increase in the temperature of my relationship and a certain amount of role reversal. This latter is really to be expected since Libra is the sign of partnership. Mars Rx here must shake-up how you do things together, and in fact, the key area for everyone is partnership and that includes how we deal with our enemies as well as our friends. How the Rx works for you does depend on where Libra is in your chart. But here are some ideas about how you could pass the time.

  1. Pick yourself up, dust yourself down, start all over again
  2. Learn ballroom dancing
  3. Say sorry to your enemies and forgive them. Take back those bitter words
  4. Play a lot of tennis, bridge — anything with partners
  5. Re-light that grand passion… Mars is, after all, the planet of libido
  6. Negotiate: give and take
  7. Refight WW2 (please don’t, but you may be tempted to
  8. Get divorced (again)
  9. Take up a soft martial art or fencing
  10. Have a shot-gun wedding
  11. Annexe Crimea*

*The Russian leader Vladimir Putin has the Sun, Neptune, Saturn, Mercury in a stellium in Libra in the 12th – the house of secret enemies – and 11th – the house of politics. Mars will revisit this during April and May and then turn forward and conjunct the stellium again over the summer.

Oh Christina, thanks for this great post …
Annex Crimea — HA! … reminds me of an old SNL joke about Argentina invading the Falklands because it was trying to impress Jodie Foster (like the would-be assassin Hinckley’s stated reason for shooting Reagan) …
Wonder who Putin is trying to impress — hmm, maybe Arnold Schwarzenegger? For some reason I’m imagining young Vlad having a huge boy crush on Conan the Barbarian … it would explain so much!

Ha ha! Yes, quite the camp KGB agent. Really it is a bit naff, with all of the topless photos with horses and huge fishing poles. .All he needs is a bit of leather and a droopy ‘tache.

Annex Crimea – very good! I had a little guffaw at that.

Yes, I’ve got much more energy right now as well (Mars is currently opposite my Aries Moon/North Node in 8th). Finding it hard to sit still. The downside is that I’ve suddently come out in hives (or eczema or something). Another phase in my longterm detox journey …..

πŸ™‚ Well, you know that is Not Right. I suggest an emergency telephonic call to your mother when you find yourself de-clogging the plugs of hair from the bath/sink aka horrible Japanese manga movies. You’ll find yourself getting sucked in!!

I realised there was something funny going on when I found myself cleaning the top shelves in the kitchen at 1 am – totally out of character.

  3. Hi Christina, I too have a watery chart and have noticed a surge in vitality since Mars has been retro

I’ll let you know after Saturn in Scorp leaves off conjoining my Mercury & Mars. LOL

The 11th house is the house of politics? I thought it was the house of gains.

I have Mars conjunct Moon in Libra natally, in 4th house. It’s a bit potent as I’m a Cancer sun and ascendant. Must admit I am feeling fatally knackered. πŸ™‚ Not at all Gingered, never mind backwards and in heels, couldn’t do it forward and in flip flops. Maybe could flop forwards for the remote to watch a Fred’nGinge re-run but that’s about it. Hope to get my MoJo back soon xx

mars RX has given me a lot of extra energy also. i recently took up jogging on treadmill so I have been using most of it there. thanks for posting this info bc i am fairly new to studying astrology and I would not have known this about mars rx. i did wonder what it was doing to everyone however!

Yup! Feeling the energy and actually using it. I have lots of air and some good water so I don’t usually feel super energetic. Another thing you made me remember is that my Dr found low iron went tested me (no surprise, been tired for a good while) and I started taking it while mars was direct at about 21~ish deg. Well, it’s kicking in.
