Democracy! Hoo-flippin’-ray!
If you listen to the podcast, you’ll know that I’ve been certain of the outcome of the 4 July General Election in the UK since it was announced. Two reasons. First: the mood of the country was clear, and second: the conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus in April. The last two times this conjunction occurred — 2010 and 1997 — a general election ousted the sitting government in the United Kingdom, leading to radical change. Back in 1983, there was also a General Election, but the incumbent went from clinging on to a handsome majority, leading to the Thatcherite revolution.
Looking at the new PM Keir Starmer’s own astrology, it’s likely he will make dramatic changes rapidly. He has a conjunction of Pluto and the Sun in the sign of service, Virgo. His victory speech was text-book Virgo: “ready to restore Britain to the service of working people”. In fact he used the word service repeatedly. He has also often described himself as ruthless — with that solar conjunction, I bet he is.
As you know, this is the year of elections across the globe. Pluto, the planet of transformation and power, in Aquarius, the sign of the common people, is bringing this (among other things).
People are pretty cynical about democracy — after years of bozos, sham elections and corruption. For instance, it was fully expected that Prime Minister Modi had the election stitched up in India, the world’s biggest democracy. In fact, he won but with a massively reduced majority. In Turkey, another country dominated for more than a decade by a “strong man”, it was expected that polls might be rigged, but the opposition gave the government a hiding in local elections. In South Africa, there was a certain amount of eye rolling too, but it turns out that the ANC is now in a coalition for the first time. In all these countries, ruling parties lost a seats, which might go to show that the electoral process was fairly sound. Meanwhile, the right chomped deeper into the European parliament than ever before in the June elections across the Union; Mexico elected its first woman president; and the French electorate narrowly staved off a right-wing take-over of the Assembly, but the governing party lost its mandate. Change is coming through the ballot box.
Here, the electorate took to fierce tactical voting in order to oust the ruling Conservative Party. As well as the huge win for Labour, smaller parties did better than ever before, notably the Liberal Democrats went from holding a mere eight seats in parliament to more than seventy, and the Greens from one to four. Of course, the far right Reform Party also took four seats. In Scotland, the Nationalists who have held a white-knuckle grip on the reins of government for years, were given a drubbing.
Of course, all eyes are now on the US Election — and I’m afraid that one is less obviously predictable, so far. This may be because of my anti-orange one bias, which makes me gag a little when I write that Donald Trump has excellent astrology for winning. So if the Democrats are serious about beating him, they need to find a candidate with cosmic help that is as powerful. Trump could be (fingers crossed) over-reaching, but it’s not going to make much odds with a weak alternative offer. Voters don’t like to be gaslit — by either side.
A note on this, in the UK, the then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called the election on a day that was brilliant for him astrologically. (I am sure he has a family pandit.) He had that Jupiter-Uranus conjunction right on his Sun! Surprise! No amount of fab cosmic weather could make the electorate change its mind. The Tories had lost the country’s confidence years ago. We were just waiting to pounce.
In May, Jupiter moved into Gemini for the rest of the year. The youthful, doubling effect of Jupiter in Gemini was especially evident in the French election, where two factions — left and centre — had to team up to beat the far right; and both far right leader and the current prime minister are super young mirror-images of each other. Not to mention the fact that Jupiter is now in the opposite sign to Emmanuel Macron’s stellium in Sagittarius — lucky for his rivals.
So what can we extract from the trend of the elections so far — and how that works with the astrology? We’re seeing tactical voting, teamwork, coalitions, compromise, cross-party talks. People working together is Aquarian. It’s the opposite of leonine, regal energy. The Jupiter-Uranus conjunction also squared Leo, while Pluto opposed Leo. So for the time being, we’re seeing the thing of Leo being challenged. Remember though that Jupiter is now in Gemini, and Pluto will retreat into Capricorn during the end-game of the US Election. There’s everything to play for in the US still.

Kamilla Harris what is her chart doing ?
I am looking at this next. A brief glance shows it is super activated.
Lovely Sunday reading!
I listened to a podcast interview yesterday with Keir’s biographer, Tom Baldwin. So much Virgo!
Ended up reading the biography. It made me wonder, can astrologers rectify a chart from reading biographies?
Ha ha. Some astrologers devote themselves to rectification by all manner of means. One way is definitely to go through the person’s life, picking out major events and seeing how they map on to the chart.
My personal short cut is dowsing — which is shockingly precise!
Googled how you would do that – fascinating!
Biography method is really painstaking, but can be accurate.
I should have mentioned Iran in my list. Another incredible result from the people.
Love this analysis from a cosmic point of view! So interesting and, as always, smartly written.
Found it fascinating that Rishi chose the day to announce the election astrologically very well! I found out during the Indian election that there is a great tradition there to predict the outcomes using Vedic astrology and other methods. Also the conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus UK fact, thanks for this really interesting article.
I saw on astrology reddit that Kamala probably has the best chart for the U.S election, it feels like a rollercoaster already! As seen on twitter, funny our election was the 4th July and the U.S, on the 5th November! 🙂
Actually, I think Kamala could do it. But will be like rolling a massive boulder up hill. She needs a team behind her.
Also — I think (although not sure without birth time) that Veep choice by Trump is a mistake. He is a really big liar but without the teflon.
