Our Planet on Fire

Our blue planet is burning red.

From Cape Town to the Cairngorms, Borneo to the Yucatan, wildfires rage.

This ball of fire is reflected in the sky. The cosmic grail pattern is also, as mentioned in previous posts, a brazier made of fire and air — Jupiter and the Sun in Leo oppose Pluto in Aquarius and dance with Neptune in fiery Aries and Uranus in the air of Gemini.

It’s in danger of getting completely out of control. Even in the watery Thames valley, we are parched. The flowers bloomed extravagantly this year; now their skeletons line the verges, rustling dryly in the heat.

We need a moratorium. Now. On all the things that are heating and polluting our beautiful planet. The time for talking is gone. And thanks to Uranus transit through Taurus, we have the technology and the understanding of how the climate works. We also have the will to make changes, to adapt.

Do you remember the moment in COVID when everything stopped? Or the volcano in Iceland which halted air travel for a day or so? We had silence again, and calm. The trees could breathe, and deer crossed the roads without fear of being smashed.

Imagine if just one day a week, all the endless human activity stopped. We have seen how quickly nature recovers given just a small chance. Imagine it. A day of rest.

Urgent Action
To paraphrase the Irish ecologist  John Moriarty, our work is to learn to live with all things. What he meant by this is that we have lost our way, at least in the West, and forgotten that we are of the world as the world is of us. We and the planet are one. If she goes, we go. If the plants and animals, the earth and the air die, we die too. There is nowhere else to go because we are, body and soul, one with our Mother Earth.

This earth is our ark.

And now we are running out of time. Saturn, the Lord of Time, is back in Aries, where he was nearly 30 years ago when the Kyoto Protocol was signed. This is an impatient sign, an urgent sign that expects action, a sign of a match lit, tinder struck, and also a sign that is one-pointed, perhaps reminding us of that very thing — there is only one planet.

We have only one time, our time, and it is now.

An opportunity may be offered by this burning brazier — again. To act now, rapidly, smoothly, effortlessly, to change.

Fire and Air
The astrology is quite pure. If we have fire and air burning and burning, we need to balance that with earth and water. Earth and water are the elements we need to add, tending to the trees and rivers, oceans and wildlife.

Right now, all the major asteroids are also in fire and air too.

Just Venus in Virgo, Chiron in Taurus, and the Moon weaving her way through all the signs, currently in watery Scorpio, offer some relief from the burning. Quite simply, these are voices of women (Venus) and mothers and babies (the Moon); the voices of beauty, harmony and love.  This is about softness, yin.

Chiron in Taurus, the sign we might associate with the goddess Gaia, is showing us the wounded earth — and soon will be here for many years. This summer is a first showing before he retreats back into Aries. But mark this entry of Chiron in Taurus (19 Jun-18 Sep), for he is part of that grail pattern, although not perfectly so. And we need only open our eyes and look around to see the wounding of the earth.

Chiron in Taurus is at the centre of the grail. And opposite to him is the sign Scorpio — a sign associated with the deepest wells, with creatures that crawl along the sea floor, with the darkness beneath the ocean — with regeneration, recycling, compost. Chiron will be here for another six years starting in April 2027. These are also signs of wealth and money — which may simply drain away.

Chiron’s transit through Taurus will actually coincids with the long grail pattern — that I wrote about before. By which I mean the repeated trines and sextiles between the outer planets — Uranus, Neptune and Pluto — that will continue until 2033 in those same fire and air signs. Clearly, we are at the start of an unfolding process.

This summer’s grail has turned into a brazier.

And yet, airplanes zig-zag across the sky, we discuss more data centres as if there’s no problem at all, the papers and certain politicians sneer at net zero and demand that we drill for more oil. Are they so removed from real life? Today, Bezos and Musk, Capricorn and Cancer, announced plans to put a million satellites into the sky — which will destroy our ozone layer. Are they mad?

With the solar eclipse coming in the sign of fixed fire, Leo, next month, and the fires still raging, will our leaders finally stop and listen to the world. Our planet is burning and we can, if we choose, stop the world from burning to a cinder.
