Sepp Blatter In His Own Words
Despite scandals a-gogo, FIFA has just re-elected its president Sepp Blatter for the 5th time. Swiss-born Blatter is nearly 80 and he’s been in office for 17 years. His rivals have been trying to get rid of him for about half the time he’s been president and last week a whole clutch of FIFA officials were arrested in the US and Switzerland on corruption charges.
So why can’t anyone stop him?
“I am a mountain goat that keeps going and going and going, I cannot be stopped, I just keep going.”
He’s right: with Saturn-Sun conjunction and the North Node in Capricorn (the moutain goat) in the 5th house of games (including football and gaming the system), he could just go on and on. All his angles are in fixed signs too; hard to shift.
“What is this notion of time? Time is infinite and we slice it up. I find the time I’ve spent at FIFA is very short and it will remain short.” Said during the current Mercury Rx in Gemini! Saturn, the master of time, in Pisces certainly doesn’t see time like everyone else. It’s much bendier. That’s funny because Blatter worked for many years at Longines, the long-established Swiss watchmakers.
“I am the president now, the president of everybody,” he said after re-election.
Yes, well Leo Rising can get a bit carried away, especially when it’s getting a nifty trine from Jupiter, the expander, super-powered in Sagittarius. Notice that Jupiter is approaching the cusp of Blatter’s important 5th house.
“Fifa cannot sit by and see greed rule the football world. Nor shall we.” (2005) With Pisces Sun — no boundaries — in the 8th house of other people’s money (and crime), maybe he doesn’t see massive backhanders as a problem. Also Neptune’s on the cusp of the 2nd House of personal earnings, so these too can be boundless and hard to trace.
“Corruption, racism, betting, and doping. These are the major problems we face and thus on my initiative [FIFA will]… actively seek solutions to these challenges.” Oh well. Pisces Sun opposite Neptune. He can’t see in the misty mirror.
“Women’s football is definitely my […] baby. I consider myself a little bit, as the godfather of women’s football in FIFA.” (2015)
He really has promoted women’s football — or at least not stood in the way — and with Venus in Aquarius on his DESC, he probably has no problem with strong, independent women. His sexism is generational more than personal. With Mars strongly placed in Aries, he wanted to pioneer something. That Mercury-Venus conjunction in Aquarius also gives him a gift for making allies within an organisation.
“Let the women play in more feminine clothes, they could for example play in tighter shorts.” – (2004) Umm. A bit of an evolution in his thinking there, but then Uranus, the planet of revolution, transited his 7th house and his Sun-Saturn conjunction soon after that statement.
Blatter’s political Moon in Libra has been receiving tough aspects from Uranus and Pluto, and he’s been having to use all his diplomatic skills – calling in favours etc – to keep his job. He could have resigned, of course, but that would have been too easy, and he has enormous self-belief. He doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong, and he’s presenting himself as a victim of American and European sour grapes and a champion of the developing world. In fact, he has weathered the Uranus-Pluto storm, but the fall out is still coming down.
Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius in the coming two years promises a clean up of world sport.
