Andy Burnham: Making the Weather

Andy Burnham courtesy Wikimedia Commons. Thoughts on his Ascendant?
Ex-Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham has stormed to victory in the super-consequential bi-election in Makerfield. His bid for the seat was the first move in a process to oust Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Burnham did not just win, he won resoundingly; trouncing the right-wing Reform candidate and demolishing Conservatives, Liberals and Greens in an area which had turned out for Reform in the last election.
We don’t have a birth time for Burnham, but I am pretty certain he’ll be the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom — and what’s more that he will bring the changes that so many have promised and failed to deliver.
Why? Simple. Compare his chart to the chart of the UK.

UK has 7Β° Libra Rising; Burnham’s powerful Uranus, the planet of change, is at 8Β°. He is the catalyst.
Also, his Uranus is only a few points away from the UK Uranus at 1Β° Libra. That UK Uranus and Ascendant are receiving big energy right now, opposed by Neptune and Saturn, but trined by Pluto and transiting Uranus. Β The country is also due for a Jupiter Return in July — which generally seems to coincide with an upbeat mood, so something’s going to give. Maybe we’ll win the World Cup. (I know, I know.)
Take another look at Burnham’s chart with the UK, and you can see that his stellium in practical, ambitious Capricorn works ultra smoothly with the UK’s Sun and IC. That earthy stellium is gets the job done — as Burnham has already proved in Manchester.

With the electrical wind of the sky god Uranus at his back, Andy Burnham has the potential to change the political weather. Let’s hope he does so, because the only other politician who currently has the same emotional impact is Nigel Farage, who is, frankly, the devil.
Change is coming whether we like it or not, and it may be stormy, so it’s better to have someone with his hands on the wheel driving the change, rather than a person, like Keir Starmer, who appears to be a passenger.

No politician will be the “Next Great Thing”. Andy Burnham is a flawed politician. His weak and failed response to the grooming gangs-the empty rhetoric with no meaningful action at the advanced level of the inquiry-accused of “turning away “from truly tackling the network of gangs -targeting young women and girls – who are being and were destroyed by this vicious and ongoing problem.
His time as Shadow Health Secretary mired in similar controversy-Mid Staffs Care scandal , Burnham was accused of suppressing a critical review -putting pressure on the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to tone down its criticism of hospitals at the time a “whitewash” report gave Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust a clean bill of health in 2010.
Not rocking the boat and not acting with integrity- smacks of self-interested ambitions that trump the priority of serving public interests.
He won’t be the next great thing — no one is as naive as to think that any more — but he will be a catalyst for change. Like I said, he changes the weather.
Let’s think positive and hope for good changes!
Agree so much!
At first glance, Gemini Ascendant. Second glance, maybe Mercury near the Ascendant. How about early Aquarius rising with tr. Pluto now triggering the Ascendant as last leg of a grand cross with that Jupiter opp. Saturn square BML on the Descendant? Mercury rising in the 12th with his Capricorn Sun — a not unusual placement for politicians.
I agree. He is kind of Peter Pan. Your analysis sounds likely to me. So many pols with big 12th house. Hope we get to find out.
Oh he’s a Capricorn! Scorpio in a suit.
My chart angles are the same as UK’s. Now I understand his impact on me. I do find him attractive! π BUT I have my reservations politically. But I can’t help liking him.
His Jupiter 3 Scorpio is conjunct my Sun. π If he’s in the news or anywhere, I immediately notice.
I don’t remember his speeches to the country exactly but I do remember they surprised everyone. That would be Uranus on the UK’s (and my) AC, I’m guessing. They’ll be worth looking up.
I get the feeling he’s playing politics to safely get to No 10, then we should expect the unexpected. Just a gut feeling, I have nothing to base it on. Apart from I would probably do the same if I had to make sure that illegal occupation didn’t stop me in my tracks like they stopped Corbyn and Miliband because they recognised Palestine. So I’m taking what Burnham says on this topic with a pinch of salt. Everything is in flux anyway. Support for the illegal occupation is fractured.
Is Mars in Pisces weak? Does the sextile to his sun, venus, moon in Capricorn support it? What does it mean? Measured action?
What’s Mercury at 29 Capricorn? He says what he means and means what he says?
His Neptune 0 Sag is close to my Moon and South Node. Dreamy. ππ I can’t help it!
Ohh his Saturn is opposite my Sun, and opposite his Jupiter. So measured action is right then. Jupiter says let’s go, Saturn says hang on a sec, minor detail over here…
His Capricorn stellium, which makes him feel like ‘home’ to the UK, is opposite the UK’s moon in Cancer. The people. We’ll see him as the people’s prime minister? He’s very popular in Manchester, even though he hasn’t delivered as much as he could have and I think he u-turned on Clean Air Zone after pressure, which is a bad sign. Sadiq Khan didn’t do that, he stood his ground and was right to.
I know a little bit about his work over the last decade, only some awareness, I didn’t follow him like a fan. I could have! But I didn’t. I’m to the left of him, he’s still a bit neoliberal for me. But he talked about Manchesterism, which is encouraging.
I am encouraged by that Uranus on the UK’s AC. Expect the unexpected. That was my gut feeling. I hope good surprises, not bad.
I was hoping you’d write about Andy Burnham. Thank you for this! I feel better.
If he becomes prime minister suddenly out of the blue, please can we have an emergency Salon?
One more thought on that Ascendant — leading from your comment Vesta — apparently he is an incredibly likeable in person. Men, women, children and pets all like Andy. What would create that kind of vibe? I think it might go with Prospera’s Aquarius theory.
Having Sun and Moon conjuncting Venus is going to make someone very pleasant, as well as generally liking to be liked.
Starmer resigned! π₯³
I don’t know enough to work out someone’s ascendant. Libra’s usually the sign for charm and charisma, not counting our miserable Libra Tory MPs and prime ministers. Maybe the sun, venus, moon stellium and that mars in Pisces? Feels like gentle energy, welcoming and warm. The stellium is in the UK’s 4th house, that feeling of home is compelling.
There’s so much goodwill for Andy Burnham. I’m hearing he could be prime minister on or around 17 July. I don’t think there’s an appetite for a leadership contest or a general election. It’s like all obstacles are being removed for him and he’s being swept in, ready or not.
People are asking questions, which is fair. The smear campaign isn’t, I think it’s unreasonable. Starmer has been so shocking, day after day, I think we’re all looking forward to a break. I’m worried about some of the things Burnham has said lately, but fingers crossed that was just playing politics.
“Hopey – changey” is not good enough. And to be hoest it seem to be othere who are driving his campaign bus. He is said that he is “not too good on detai” and with Mars in Pisces, does he even know where he wants to drive that bus ?
He currently has Neptune Squaring his natal Moon, and that will ,over time, square his other Capricorn planets ( Sun and Venus, especially), and Saturn is about to square his natal Sun, and is currently squaring his natal Venus. He is going to have to be tested out.
I’m wondering where people are getting that Libra rising from? Is theer an established birth time?
As I say in the piece, we don’t have a birth time.
But we are all wondering what his ascendant might be– that’s all.
I always think he seems very bovine, so i guess that could indicate a Taurus ascendent, as well as another emphasis on his more Venusian, pleasing nature.
I called this article Making the Weather because of Uranus the sky god. So I guess I should not have been surprised when a spectacular lightning storm hit the south of England yesterday and last night. Uranus is associated especially with lightning (in astrology). He is the electrical god.
This reminded me of the time I was in Rome and the Pope resigned and there was a spectacular lightning storm. Lightning actually struck St Peter’s. That Pope was replaced by Francis.
Perhaps the gods have spoken again this time. And isn’t it about time we had someone who took climate change really seriously in charge?
Thank you Christina – I wonder what you make of that impressive Capricorn Stellium squaring the UK’s Nodal axis and while his Saturn squaring the UK Jupiter could be seen as steadying it precisely opposes the cusp of the UK’s 2nd house. If he becomes PM implementing his vision is almost certain to upset the markets – perhaps unlike Liz Truss he will ride that out. Last Transiting Neptune is precisely trining UK’s Chiron so if there is a time for a healing vision I guess that must be now.I realize there are many other positive points you did not have space to mention. Anton
Thanks Anton. And for anyone interested in diving deeper into Anton’s astrology here is a link https://cyclesofhistory.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Cycles-3pp-broch.pdf
I think the stellium fits in with the UK chart neatly, and his Sun squaring the Nodes is about a change in direction. After all the UK Sun also squares those nodes. You may be right about upsetting the markets, but on the other hand he actually has Jupiter in Scorpio in the UK house of money, so that should be helpful. My advice to him now would be to take a series of really BIG, easy wins this summer. For example, dealing with the water companies, reversing the National Insurance decision immediately and the laws that have led to demonstrating vicars being arrested, and why not move some of the civil service North. A big win would be tackling student debt which affects families up and down the country. And another big win would be tackling the terrible infrastructure problems including potholes! The question he should be asking is what can we do fast and smoothly without throwing babies out with bathwater.
I am hoping he comes with up with a rebuild Britain plan which includes the NEETS, as well as restructuring taxes, maybe raising the threshold so that poorer people have more spending power.
Not directly connected to Andy Burnham, though I was very interested to read your thoughts on his chart –I’m fascinated by what you say about so many politicians with 12 th house stelliums. Would you consider doing a piece on this? As a 12th house stellium myself (Sun Moon Venus Pluto) this would be deeply intriguing. As a reclusive artist I probably fit the more usual interpretation of the 12th – and am interested that the house of seclusion shows up in the charts of one of the most public and often famous professions.
Off the top of my head Tony Blair and George W both have 12th house Suns. But I am sure there are more. Gordon Brown has Venus-Mars there, I think.
It’s to do, I think, with connecting with the collective. Also, I wonder if it comes in waves, since those ones are the same generation.
Interesting. It feels from what you say as if the choice of candidate might have something to do with the collective unconscious?
Thank you Christina. Fascinating about the Grail pattern and the t-square – and thanks for correcting my mistakes!
Antonia — Actually a T-square from Jupiter to Saturn with Lilith on the apex. I do actually think Lilith is strong enough. And I note that when he actually is crowned, the whole Grail pattern will be on the same degrees with tr Jupiter on that Lilith.
I think that T-square speaks of the king of the north, the delays, the obstacles and the eventual arrival a victory, and seizing the crown.
There is a fairytale quality to the story of Burnham’s retreat from Westminster back to the North, his gathering of his forces in Manchester and eventual triumphant return to the capital. I feel that he had to use is differences with the establishment — Chiron and Lilith — in order to unite the Saturn and Jupiter.
Intriguing and makes sense. I wondered what your thoughts are on the t-square between his Jupiter in Scorpio and his North Node in Aries (aggressive drive/destined for power?) squaring his Lilith in Leo. Do you consider Lilith significant enough to influence/anchor a t-square? Hope you don’t mind the questions-I’m only an intermediate student but very interested.
Yes, exactly. Maybe to be popular you need to be plugged in to the collective.
I’ve tried out Burnham’s chart with a Cancer Ascendent, putting his Sun, Moon and Venus in the 7th. He is certainly a team player and very much tied up for his sense of self with the input of others; also I feel he has a strong connection with women. If you take a Cancer Ascendant, then his ruling planet is the Moon, and that is conjunct Venus in his 7th house – hence his appeal to and attraction for women and women or female centred issues. It is mainly women who have been running his campaign. Both Saturn and Neptine currently transiting Aries – will both be forming squares to his potential 7th house Capricorn planets over the next few years – suggestive that those relationships with team mates and supporters might well be tested out, and also that he invitably will not be able to live up to the ideals that people have projected onto him.
I do agree. though, bout having a strong 12th house ( but also an 11th house) and being sensitive to the collective – in terms of what is circulating there. what you are most sensitive to will obviously be coloured by the nature of the planet you have there, and also the approach you would take to that content.
If you take a Cancer Ascendent ( at about 4.30pm) then that gives Burnham a Pisces M.H – he certainly has a chameleon like public image. People don’t quite know what he stands for, or which version will turn up. It also puts his Mars in the 10th house, and that sextiles those (poential) 7th house planets…….suggestive that his leadership would be very much connected to the input of hios team and/or his personal partnerships.
I do think his imminent coronation represents a hijack by a faction of Labour party Mps and activists – who see him as the best way to implement their ideas – ideas which they believe will draw those northern Reform voters away from Reform and back to their traditional home.
True about the 11th house — another big one for the pols.
Also, he does seem to get along with women very well. I met someone recently who knew him at uni (vaguely), and said he was both effortlessly popular and the sort of person who other people emulated — setting a trend at the time for wearing football shirts!
