In the Key of Pisces: Miriam Makeba

Time unknown so set for noon.
Mama Africa: Miriam Makeba. Born on March 4, 1932. Makeba, along with her husband Hugh Masakela, was one of the most prominent artistic exiles from South Africa during the apartheid era.
Although South Africa revoked her passport, 10 other countries stepped in to offer her citizenship. So she was truly a citizen of the world. She finally returned to South Africa – after three decades in exile – when Nelson Mandela was released.
Sun, Mercury and Mars in Pisces. The action planet in the sign of feet and music often makes for a smooth dancer. Makeba’s music is certainly irresistibly dancey. She has absolutely bags of joyous charm in all the clips I’ve watched, which might be due to the Sun-Jupiter conjunction in Libra.
Neptune is in Virgo opposite the Sun. Maybe you can here that precision in her diction when she sings the Click Song.
How does she do that!!!
Such Pisces eyes. They fill with joy when she sings.
Lucio Dalla, a much loved italian singer was also born on March 4th. He passed away few days before his birthday in 2012. His lyrics are beautiful. Lots of ‘sentimento’.
The clicks are just practice! In fact we use them all the time in European languages but not as words – e.g making the sound of horse hooves with our tongues, attracting a pretty girl (rarely done now for fear of getting a smack in the face!) tutting a child, and so on. I love Miriam’s voice, its so balmy!
Right! I’m used to the clicks as sounds like you mention. But weaving them in perfect timing within a song is a whole other level 🙂
