Articles

Hundreds of articles are contained within this archive on politics and people, music and film, celebrities and culture, history and social issues: all through the lens of astrology, of course. Also there are articles here on all aspects of astrology from asteroids to zero. Most of them are written by me, Christina Rodenbeck, astrologer and writer, expert and enthusiast. There are a handful of outstanding guest posts though, which I highly recommend.
Leo Rising: Hats, Manes, A Turban…
You know about Leo and hair. Big and fluffy, long and flowing: remarkable. The state of the tresses can be a big clue to Leo Rising. But it turns out that hats are good too. And failing that, maybe a wig. You’ll see what I mean… Everyone here has Leo Rising. How to wear a […]

This is the ceiling of the Villa Farnesina in Rome. The frescoes in the room tell the story of Cupid and Psyche. Photo is by me. We enter the month with the council of the gods still in force. All the planets are between 5° and 12°. Luna is currently in Gemini, but soon she […]

Astrology of Now: The Star of David
A very unusual pattern is forming in the sky this morning. It’s called a Star of David, because it’s made up of two almost perfectly intersecting Grand Trines. You can see it in the image here. This is an Earth-Water Star, which should already give you an idea of the combination of practical [...]

Astrology of Now: Beauty in the Mirror
Venus at her Mirror, Velazquez. Today and this week, the planet of beauty, art and peace, Venus, looks into a mirror that magnifies her image: that is Neptune her big blue brother swirling through the outer solar system. Venus is activating the water grand trine that connects Saturn (making [...]

The Little Prince
Reading a baby’s chart is seldom a useful exercise. It tends to lead to too much projection and expectation on the part of the parents. But taking into account my misgivings about babies’ charts, this child is an exception. Because he is a future king, for better or worse, his life [...]

Brain Like A Jellyfish
Sea Nettle jellyfish. Photo by Fred Hsu from Wikimedia Commons. I have just been attempting to write a post inspired by the following aphorism. “Madness is the exception in individuals; the rule in groups.” On the whole, I think Nietzsche had a point. Yet, the more you think about [...]

Suzanne Valadon
This terrific self-portrait dates from 1927. Just as a supplement to the Satie piece: here is Suzanne Valadon’s chart. She was a wonderful woman, a free spirit, single mother, great painter and an inspiration for many other artists (Neptune in the 7th), in particular Renoir. For a while [...]

Astrology of Now: What This Merc Rx Is Good For
D likes to mooch around the local junk market on Thursdays. Today he came home with an old record player. We are spinning discs that have been in storage for – ahem – decades this afternoon. Perfect on a sunny evening with Mercury retrograding through the sign of nostalgia, [...]

Comedians: Flights of Fancy, Saying the Unsayable and the Inner Savage
Danny Kaye had a Sun-Uranus conjunction in Capricorn. I read a post over at Libra Seeking Balance this week which reminded me that Uranus + Mercury = funny. Now I can vouch for this personally since I live with the funniest man I could find, and he has Merc + Uranus on the Ascendant. [...]

Lendl and Murray: Coaching a Champion
Andy Murray: finding the emotional strength The Men’s Final at Wimbledon this year was so graceful and exciting. And always, it was not just a test of physical prowess – although the sheer animal magic of the occasion was beautiful – but a contest of mental stamina and [...]

Astrology of Now: Diving In
Millais’ Ophelia – suspended in a dream. It’s emotional, it’s dreamy, it’s images and colours, not words. It’s a misty vision on the edge of your mind, and the time between sleeping and waking. It’s a pool of water reflecting the sky with a fish [...]

Qatar: It’s A Family Business
Old Emir/new Emir The little kingdom of Qatar, which sticks out like a thumb into the Arabian Gulf, is a fiefdom belonging to the Al Thani family. Happily for them, it’s a thumb that’s stuck in a magic pudding, which just goes on and on giving – at current estimates more than $200 [...]

Spiritualism, Plague and Astrology
As you know, astrology works through metaphor and imagery. You arrive at an understanding of a sign or a planet elliptically, and a story unfolds through the multiple elements weaving together. But all combinations have the potential to tell different stories. So for example, consider Neptune [...]
